EMC was among the first firms to run a multibeam sweep system, among the first to use Differential GPS commercially on the water, and one of the first U.S. companies to own a Riegl 3D terrestrial laser scanner.
Today that continues with mobile LiDAR, UAV mapping, GIS and in-house engineering.

From Greenwood, Mississippi to 45+ states.
EMC was established in Greenwood, Mississippi in 1984, moved its headquarters to Grenada in 2008, and has since completed thousands of land and hydrographic surveys for federal, state and local agencies and for private and public companies.
Today EMC, Inc. operates as a geospatial and engineering firm, adding GIS, mobile LiDAR and in-house engineering to the survey disciplines we've practiced for four decades. Our office in St. Thomas and St. Croix supports work across the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Caribbean.
Our founder
Mark Mattox
Founder · 1984 | In memory, 2023
Mark Mattox started EMC in 1984 from scratch. A self-taught surveyor, he learned the profession in the field, hired a few people, and built the company one project at a time.
Under his leadership, EMC grew into one of the largest survey contractors to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Mark became a licensed professional surveyor in eight states and a certified hydrographic surveyor.
Mark passed away in 2023. The company he built is now carried on by his sons, and every project EMC delivers carries forward the work he started.
